ECU remapping is the future of performance and economy increases for modern vehicles. Almost all vehicles today rely on some sort of electronic engine management system (ECU or Electronic Control Unit) which can be adjusted to suit vehicle modifications or driving styles.
In today's hi-tech petrols and diesels the engine management system (ECU) controls many parameters within a vehicle's engine system including fuel pressure, injection timing and duration, turbo boost, EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) cycles, DPF (diesel particulate filter) cycles, torque availability in each gear, rev limits and more.
For Performance or economy upgrades, one option is a plug-in-chip which generally piggybacks the wiring harness on the engine "tricking" the ECU by changing the input signals it receives. Most of these rely on increasing the fuel rail pressure resulting in more fuel being injected. Some higher end chips can change injection timing and duration, but most don't. These chips cannot change torque requests from the gearbox (modern autos) and cannot change EGR or DPF cycles- which affect fuel economy. They often produce more emissions, and are highly visible in the engine bay, meaning they have to be removed prior to warranty work or servicing.
ECU tunes or remaps can alter all of the above parameters, and generally keep the engine within its original design specifications so that all engine fault codes and alarms still work as originally intended.
If you have big tyres, are towing, want to smooth out take-off torque (remove auto delays) or just want to use less fuel, we can customise every tune to suit. We do not use generic tunes, each file is individually modified to suit the customer and are world class.
An ECU tune is also invisible. There is nothing visible in the engine bay, and in most cases can be left on for warranty or servicing work while a vehicle is under warranty as dealer diagnostic gear cannot "see" the tune. If you have any doubts they can removed free of charge while work is done.
